Location

Designed to balance efficiency, functionality, and member experience, the Travis Credit Union Pinole Branch is another successful TruEdge prototype. Spanning 2,354 square feet, the branch includes an ATM vestibule, four private offices, a four-person teller line, and workspace for eight to nine full-time employees—all tailored to support Travis Credit Union's operational goals and future growth.

Summary

Prototype Branch TI

As a financial institution with more than $5 billion in assets, Travis Credit Union was entering a new era of growth following a leadership transition. A key initiative was to modernize and expand its branch network while creating a more consistent brand experience for members. TruEdge was selected to develop a flexible prototype branch—a scalable "kit of parts" that could be adapted for new locations while also serving as the foundation for future renovations across the existing branch network. The prototype needed to balance operational efficiency, member experience, and brand consistency, providing a repeatable solution that could support the credit union's long-term growth strategy.

The Challenges

Neighbor Noise

The prototype's first implementation was located in an inline retail center adjacent to an OrangeTheory Fitness studio, creating a unique acoustic challenge. The neighboring tenant's high-energy music had the potential to disrupt the quiet, professional environment expected within a financial institution. TruEdge was tasked with evaluating and implementing sound mitigation strategies to minimize noise transfer, ensuring members and staff could enjoy a comfortable, distraction-free banking experience without compromising the project's schedule or budget.

Back Office Upgrades

During programming and design, Travis Credit Union challenged the team to rethink the employee experience by giving greater attention to back-office spaces. Rather than focusing solely on member-facing areas, the project explored how workplace design could reinforce the credit union's commitment to its employees. A key consideration was balancing enhanced staff amenities with responsible cost management. Ultimately, Travis Credit Union chose to incorporate a thoughtful level of upgraded finishes and features as a pilot initiative to evaluate their impact on employee satisfaction, engagement, and retention. TruEdge collaborated closely with the client to develop design solutions that delivered meaningful improvements while remaining aligned with the project's budget and long-term branch prototype strategy.

Working collaboratively with Travis Credit Union, TruEdge developed and refined multiple prototype concepts using immersive virtual reality modeling to evaluate layouts, member experience, and design details before construction. The final prototype struck the right balance between comfort and sophistication, incorporating distinctive architectural features, branded finishes, and thoughtfully integrated lighting that reinforced the credit union's evolving identity. Employee experience was also a central design priority. Enhanced back-of-house amenities, including upgraded break room finishes, a Mother's Room, custom lockers, a pantry, and inspirational graphics celebrating the local community and member impact, created a more welcoming and engaging workplace. To address noise from the adjacent fitness center, TruEdge engineered a specialized acoustic wall system using QuietRock, virtually eliminating sound transfer between the spaces. The solution not only protected the member experience but also created one of the quietest branch environments in TruEdge's portfolio.
