Heritage Community Credit Union approached us with a bold goal: reduce their existing 5,000 SF branch to just 750 SF. The objective was twofold—dramatically lower monthly operating costs while relocating to a high-visibility, high-traffic location. With such a compact footprint, every square inch had to work smarter. Our design team embraced the challenge, creating a highly efficient, purpose-driven space without compromising functionality or member experience.

Transitioning from a 5,000 SF branch to a 750 SF micro branch came with its share of challenges—but also opportunities. TruEdge partnered closely with Heritage Community Credit Union to define the must-haves and explore creative solutions that maximized functionality within a compact footprint. The result? A highly efficient space that proves small can still deliver big impact.
The Challenges
Technology Needs Space Too
No matter how compact the branch, IT infrastructure still needs a dedicated home. In this micro branch, we installed the IT rack above the ATM to maximize vertical space. All surrounding walls were lined with plywood to support the installation of security, alarm, card access, and communication systems—while also providing a secure barrier between this area and the adjacent space.
Optimizing Workspaces for Maximum Efficiency
To make the most of the limited square footage, we incorporated floor-to-ceiling cabinetry for added storage without sacrificing floor space. With a small team onsite, flexibility was essential—so several areas were thoughtfully designed for multi-purpose use, supporting both daily operations and staff comfort.

Knowing the limited space required thoughtful planning, TruEdge developed three distinct layout options for Heritage Community Credit Union. Using both 2D and 3D visuals—complete with subtle angles and color applications—we helped the client easily visualize each concept. To bring a modern, cohesive feel to the space, we used a technique called color drenching, applying the same color across floors, walls, and furnishings within key zones. The result? A vibrant, contemporary environment that feels fresh and inviting—far beyond what the previous branch offered. Despite its compact size, the branch includes everything from private offices to a breakroom and an ATM—all functioning seamlessly. Our team also collaborated closely with tech vendors to ensure the infrastructure met current and future needs.
