Location
Located on the end cap of a 1980s-era strip mall in the heart of Grass Valley, this project marked a major step forward for First US Community Credit Union. Faced with the need to relocate their existing branch, the credit union saw an opportunity to reimagine their space. They partnered with TruEdge to take their new Grass Valley Branch - a prototype tenant improvement project - from idea to done.
Summary

Prototype Design
Multiple concept designs were developed early in the process using Building Information Modeling (BIM) modeling to explore the best path forward. BIM is a collaborative digital process that creates and manages a data-rich 3D model of a project throughout its lifecycle—from design to construction and beyond. Through detailed 3D visualizations, the team and client gained a clear understanding of how each concept would look and feel in reality. The credit union envisioned an open, welcoming layout featuring both floating and fixed teller lines, along with a mix of private and open desking areas. The final design delivered on every goal—incorporating two exterior ATMs and a full suite of back-office amenities.
The Challenges
Lighting and ADA Upgrades
Many sites fall short on exterior lighting and ADA compliance. By being involved early in the site selection process, TruEdge identified these deficiencies well before the lease was signed. The solution included installing two new light poles, adding structural lighting, and removing and replacing a significant portion of the sidewalk to meet accessibility standards.
Site Selection
Site selection is more than location and lease terms—it’s about catching what others miss. By involving TruEdge early, First US Community Credit Union uncovered and resolved critical issues like ADA compliance, lighting, and signage requirements before signing the lease, ensuring a smooth project from the very start.
The new branch design focused on creating an efficient, welcoming environment that supports both staff and member experiences. The retail area features a 2-person floating teller, a 3-person semi-floating teller, three open-platform MSR desks, a waiting area, a branch manager office, hoteling space, and a conference room. Behind the scenes, the back office was thoughtfully planned with a workroom, combined ATM/IT room, mother’s room, breakroom, janitor closet, and two restrooms—ensuring functionality and comfort. TruEdge also provided all furniture, branding, and finish elements to create a cohesive, branded environment. To further support the client’s system-wide goals, 58 additional chairs were delivered to refresh other branches and the HQ location— all completed within the branch project timeline.
